The history of the Poondi Madha Church dates back to the late 19th century. The Shrine was established in 1826 by Fr. Antony Mariadas, a Jesuit missionary, who dedicated it to Our Lady of Lourdes. The shrine gained prominence due to reports of miraculous healings and spiritual experiences associated with it.
