In 1966, Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1 in Trichy opened its doors to students in five divisions, ranging in age from kindergarten to class V. It was then moved to Tennur, behind the Hindi Prachar Sabha. The school’s In-Charge Principal was Smt. Rama Srinivasan, PGT English. From 1967 to 1968, when grades Vi through IX were operating with one section each, Mr. Krishna, Principal of KV No. 1, JIPMER Campus, Pondicherry, was in charge of the school. Mr. S. Ranganathan, PGT Economics, KV Jamnagar, Gujarat, was hired as the principal and transferred to KV No. 1 Trichy in the year 1967.
Later, the school was moved to the Ordnance Manufacturing Campus in Trichy, where it was operating in a temporary factory building just across from the Ordnance Factory. Sections were divided among of each class.
