It has synthetic turf, imported from the Netherlands, which was laid in two weeks by a professional from England. It also has a gymnasium and sports hostel. It has a capacity of more than 10,000. With this, Trichy became the fourth city in Tamil Nadu after Chennai, Coimbatore, and Madurai to have such facilities for athletics. It was owned and maintained by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu and the Government of Tamil Nadu.
