MUKKOMBU DAM HISTORY:
Mukkombu means ‘three branches’ in Tamil. The Upper Anaicut is also known as Mukkombu is the dam built on the Cauvery River. The dam is located 18 km away from Trichy city. The dam was constructed between 1836 and 1838 by Sir Arthur Cotton. It is 685 meters long and it breaks into three channels at the Upper Anaicut to form the island of Srirangam, which is enclosed in between the delta of Thanjavur (Tanjore). Not only the dam, but Mukkombu is also one of the best tourist places in Trichy.

Mukkombu is one of the best picnic spots, you can see a huge crowd of people sitting in circles, enjoying their lunch. There are a lot of shops and canteens available with hot steaming ground nuts, Snacks and Ice creams. It will also be the best spot to take the school children for a one day trip. Vehicles are allowed inside and it’s a good place for family tours.
