Malaikkottai Uchi Pillaiyar Temple - Thayumanavar Sannathi
The most famous landmark of Tiruchirappalli is the Rockfort Temple, also known as Ucchi Pillaiyar Kovil. It is located in the heart of the city. This temple stands on a massive 275-feet tall rock, and it can be reached by climbing 437 steps carved into the rock.
Halfway up the hill is the Thayumanavar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple features a 100-pillared hall and a Vimana. It also contains inscriptions dating back to the 3rd century B.C.
From the top of the Rockfort, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of Tiruchirappalli city and its other major landmarks such as Srirangam Temple, the Cauvery River, the Coleroon River, and Thiruvanaikaval Temple.
